For women and children in need, even some of the basics are hard to come by.  Many families take things like diapers and wipes for granted, but when you’re trying to get yourself back on your feet, nothing comes easy.

To lend a helping hand, the MOMS Club of San Pedro, CA, recently completed a service project with Harbor Interfaith, a non-profit group serving the South Bay communities of Los Angeles.  Harbor Interfaith’s mission is to help the homeless and working poor achieve self-sufficiency byproviding support services including shelter, transitional housing, food, job placement, advocacy, childcare, education and life-skills training.  In 2014, Harbor Interfaith provided services to over 31,000 people.

To support Harbor Interfaith, the chapter pulled together boxes of personal hygiene products for women and children in need.   They collected combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products, diapers, wipes, wrapped snacks and other critical items.   And because they couldn’t just hand over a plain bunch of boxes, they decorated each shoebox with cutouts, stickers and pom poms!  The result:  the happiest, most colorful collection of 80 shoeboxes in Southern California!

Finally, the club delivered the boxes to Harbor Interfaith – and the look of pure appreciation on the recipients’ faces was priceless.  What a great service project, and a great way to make a difference in the lives of those in need!
