As MOMS Clubs chapters across North America start to get pummeled with icy weather, park days are becoming a tougher sell to kids and moms alike. What should a chapter do when the weather outside is frightful? The MOMS Club of McKinney-C, TX, has a great idea to share!

Faced with a typical Texas summer (and its infamous triple digit temperatures), the chapter decided to beat the summer heat by having an indoor campout! They pushed the furniture back and set up several tents in the living room, with a big paper campfire in the middle. They had flashlights and kids’ battery operated lanterns in the tents along with books about nature, outdoors, star gazing, etc.DSC_0212

Best of all – the chapter was able to combine the campfire with a chapter meeting. While the kiddos played in the tents and read books, the moms had their meeting in the adjoining room.

And finally – what’s a campfire without (microwave) s’mores?? The kids and the moms had a sweet treat to cap off their campfire extravaganza. What a great event!
