At this time of year, it’s not unusual to see a very wide variety of holiday traditions. There are lots of ways to celebrate the holidays – the more the merrier!

The MOMS Club of Roseville-West, CA took a creative approach to celebrating the recent Hanukkah holiday. One of the club’s moms, who is Jewish and celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas with her family, was brave enough to open up her home to the entire chapter – for a “latke playgroup”.

The centerpiece of the event, of course, was getting everyone involved in making potato latkes (a traditional Hanukkah food). Potatoes, potatoes, potatoes… every mom and every kid brought a big pile of potatoes, and a peeler. OK little ones, let’s get to work! The little kids peeled (who knew those kids could be so efficient with sharp objects?), the moms fried them up, and everyone had a delightful taste of Hanukkah cuisine – all topped off with sour cream and applesauce.

The kids also got a chance to make foam dreidels and play the dreidel game – teaching them a little bit more about Hanukkah traditions. All in all, the event was a wonderful and fun time for both the moms and the kids!
