When they saw the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and then Irma, the MOMS Club of Spartanburg, SC knew they had to do something to help. They quickly mobilized their members and decided to host a yard sale to raise funds for the Mother-to-Mother Fund, knowing the fund would be able to help moms in all the affected areas.
With a donated gymnasium at a local church secured, the chapter reached out to chapter members and the local community for items for the yard sale. Donations poured in! Members helped set up the sale, advertise, organize and work the event itself. The youth from the church even pitched in to help clean-up after the event.
The yard sale was held on Saturday but chapter members were allowed to ‘pre-shop’ the sale on Friday before the doors opened to the entire community on September 16th. The goal was to raise $500 for a donation but they far surpassed that raising over $1800!
Anytime our members face a devastating financial situation, we’re astounded by the generosity of MOMS Club chapters from around the world. The efforts of the MOMS Club of Spartanburg are a great example of how moms can support one another in times of great need. Although “thank you” hardly seems like enough — on behalf of the affected moms and their families, please know how grateful we are for your support!
