Every day and every night, the community of Hermosa Beach, CA, relies on the brave men and women from the Hermosa Beach Police, Fire and Lifeguard Departments to keep them safe and secure. For most of the year, these brave first responders do their job thanklessly – but the MOMS Club of Hermosa Beach has decided to give the thank-you that is so well deserved.

For the last four years, the chapter has held an annual “2 Weeks 2 Give” service project each November, tied into Thanksgiving. For two consecutive weeks in November, the chapter’s members donate meals, baked goods and goodie baskets directly to the police, fire and lifeguard personnel. For the chapter, it’s a way to show their appreciation; it’s also an opportunity to teach the kids about how police officers, firefighters and lifeguards keep the community safe.201412547fdf3fc247c

This is part of a long tradition of service projects for the chapter – they have done backpack drives, diaper drives, park cleanups and fundraising for new playground equipment. They’re already planning their
next service project – a gift wrapping donation project for a local family crisis center.201412547fdf3e59e82
Of course, the first responders have been gracious enough to return the favor to the chapter. Some of the chapter’s kids have been lucky enough to be deputized at the fire station during the food drop-offs. Others have had the chance to meet the K9 dog unit or sit in a police car; others got to check out the view from the Lifeguard Tower at Hermosa Pier!
