Motherhood can be scary, but not nearly as scary as the scarecrow created by the MOMS Club of Berkeley Heights/Summit, NJ for their local scarecrow contest, the New Providence Scarecrow Stroll.  The contest has local teams, businesses, and groups create the wildest, cleverest, funniest scarecrows they can imagine.  The scarecrows are on display in downtown New Providence starting in mid-October.  Residents are encouraged to stroll around town and vote on their favourites in one of a few categories.

Scarecrow making eventThis year, the chapter decided to embrace the humor in motherhood and created a Super Mom scarecrow.  The chapter hosted a scarecrow-making event.  Moms brought items from their homes and, along with a bale of straw, the kids and moms worked together to create the ultimate Super Mom.  I could not do her description justice without sharing what the chapter posted about her in their monthly newsletter:

First things first. Have you seen Super Mom Scarecrow yet? She is an amazing representation of everyday life. Baby in hand, toddler gripping onto her leg screaming, “I want more candy!” and another little one on the way. She has a coffee in her “free” hand but….. it’s cold. She hasn’t washed her hair in a week and she forgot that today was Wear Red Day at school. Many thanks to the creative crew of moms who came together to help create our vision a reality. She is located in front of the New Providence Presbyterian Church on Springfield Avenue. The scarecrows will be on display in downtown New Providence until November 1st. Please vote for Super MOM, number 73, the next time you are in a business in New Providence. Prizes will be given for the scarecrow with the most votes!

Because many of you reading this won’t make it to New Providence to see Super Mom, I am thrilled to be able to share her — in all her motherly glory — here!
