Midland, TX, is a little bit off the beaten path. Located in West Texas – deep in the heart of oil country – moms there know that, sometimes, you need to create your own fun! The MOMS Club of Midland, TX, figured that because of the population boom, the strong economy and the lack of things to do in West Texas, a fun fundraiser would be a big hit.
In the fall of 2013, the club held their first Touch-a-Truck event. Touch-a-Truck is a unique and interactive event that allows children to see, touch, and safely explore their favorite big trucks and heavy machinery, as well as to meet the personnel who protect, serve, and build the Midland community. It was such a success, the club followed up with another Touch-a-Truck event in fall of 2014, and are already planning their third in Spring 2016. 
And wow, did they ever find a crazy collection of vehicles! For the 2014 edition, they got tractor trailers and utility trucks…. they got farm tractors and backhoes…. they got street sweepers, cement mixers and cherry pickers… they got hot rods and stretch limos… they got armed military and police SWAT team vehicles… and of course, they got emergency response vehicles. And – while it doesn’t strictly count as a truck – getting a chance to touch a helicopter was a highlight of the day!
The event also features area mascots, food trucks, face painting, bounce castles, and raffle. There is fun for children and adults alike!
To help stage the event, the club got dozens of community participants and sponsors – making it a true community event. All in all, over 500 people attended this year, and all ticket sales were donated to The Genesis Center of The Permian Basin, a crisis and relief center for women and children in West Texas.
