JUNE
At your General Business Meeting, the Nominating Committee conducts the election by secret ballot. The candidates receiving a majority of the votes shall be declared elected. No proxy votes are allowed. If there is only one candidate per office, then the entire slate of officers can be accepted by a show of hands. Members of the Nominating Committee that are also candidates may not assist in counting votes.
One other note in this area is that Presidents only vote in the case of a tie. How can you get around the awkwardness of the Nominating Committee coming back into the room to ask for the President to break a tie? Have the President vote with the rest of the members, however her ballot would be of a different shape, size or color, or even just include her name so that if it is needed to break a tie, only the Nominating Committee will know who she voted for. Finally, be sure to congratulate all the candidates, as well as the new Board!
